“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?'“
- Martin Luther King Jr.
TREND is devoted to making a meaningful impact and difference. We believe that the world can be a more equitable place if we supported one another. We stand with those in underrepresented communities, and we strive to allow them the chance to be heard. We lift each other up and embrace our differences on every front. We believe in the climate emergency and the fight to keep our planet from dying.
We reject antisemitism and hateful speech against any person or religion. We stand with our African American brothers and sisters against police brutality. We stand with our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters in a national quest for equal rights. We stand with women everywhere in support of equal pay. We stand with Immigrant children and families and their dreams for a better life. We believe that everyone with a uterus has a right to their own bodies and the medical choices they make without interference. Our staff utilizes this page to let you know about the social causes currently on our minds.
TREND is proud to support social justice as change is something we continuously fight for. We can do better if we stand together. Every Tuesday, our team does at least one thing to make our community better and we invite you to join us. Below are some organizations and causes currently supported by our staff. Supporting Our AAPI Community
The Covid-19 pandemic has placed the unconscionable attitude towards Asians in full view. Here at TREND, we are committed to supporting and uplifting the AAPI community through educating ourselves and donating to causes that aim for inclusiveness, equality and justice.
As Yuri Kochiyama put it, "Life is not what you alone make it. Life is the input of everyone who touched your life and every experience that entered it. We are all part of one another."
Three ways you can help today:
1. Support Asian Americans Advancing Justice. Their mission is to advance the civil and human rights for Asian Americans and to build and promote a fair and equitable society for all.
2. Join Stop AAIP Hate's mission to stand united against racism and help them confront the sharp rise in racist rhetoric against the AAIP community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
3. Support organizations doing the work on the ground:
"Established in 1990, AAPIP is a justice-minded national philanthropy serving organization that provides unique community spaces for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and allies in philanthropy. We are a membership-based organization that centers equity and justice in philanthropy to move money and build power of AAPI communities for an inclusive democracy."
"In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, AAPI Equity Alliance (AAPI Equity), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate coalition on March 19, 2020. The coalition tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States."

Founded in 1910 and headquartered in New York City, the Urban League collaborates at the national and local levels with community leaders, policymakers, and corporate partners to elevate the standards of living for African Americans and other historically underserved groups.”
"The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons."
Beyond Basics – Champions of literacy
In honor of Black History Month 2021, TREND teamed up with Beyond Basics 501(c)(3) – champions of literacy, to change the lives of Metropolitan Detroit children who are behind academically.
Students in every corner of the United States are struggling to read at grade appropriate levels – and those who are economically disadvantaged suffer the most, as 85% or more of students in poorer districts tend to fall into the “literacy gap.” We kicked things off with a $250 donation, and together with your generosity, we sponsored a student in need for the entire school year!

Fighting Hunger & Helping the Unhoused
At TREND, we acknowledge the growing hunger crisis that has been exasperated by the global Coronavirus pandemic. 1 in 5 children is experiencing hunger in the United States this year. As a response, TREND sponsored 2,000 meals during the holiday season through local food banks to do our small part for a bigger change.
Donating food is great, but donating money to a local food bank is the most impactful way to make a difference. The centers use their bulk purchasing power and non-profit status to acquire more per dollar than we can at the supermarket. Food banks can also purchase specific items needed most and obtain fresh produce that can be distributed before getting spoiled. Thus, even a small monetary donation to a local food bank can make a huge difference.
“No Kid Hungry is a movement of teachers, chefs, community leaders, parents, lawmakers and CEOs with a shared belief: no kid in America should go hungry.”
“Throughout Northeast Ohio, one in six people is food insecure – meaning they may not know where their next meal will come from. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank seeks to bridge the meal gap, connecting individuals with the nutritious meals they need to succeed.”
“SELAH’s goal is to ensure that our unhoused neighbors have access to as much community support and political recognition as possible. We hope to accomplish this through material aid, connection to existing services and policy advocacy.”
Mental Health Resources
Project Health Minds
“Project Healthy Minds is a nonprofit that has recognized the current shortfalls of how we are currently dealing with mental health and is determined to find interdisciplinary ways to confront the mental health crisis.”
